Over 10,000 Kids set to have taken part in Healthy Holidays Calderdale over the summer
Keeping children occupied in the school holidays isn’t easy or cheap. We are working with Calderdale Council to deliver the Healthy Holidays Calderdale programme, funded by the Department of Education, delivering a programme of enriching activities for children and young people to take part in fun activities and also get healthy snacks and meals. Children and young people who are eligible for free school meals can access free places and for those not eligible, paid for places are available too.
Members of the CFFC team have been out doing audit visits and have been impressed by what they have seen on the ground. Of course, we have monitoring reports and figures, but seeing and talking to children about how much they enjoy the programmes is the most rewarding aspect of the audit visits.
The range of activities they can take part in is huge, including:
- Boxing
- Nerf Wars
- Bubble football
- Forrest School
- Arts and Drama
- Drumming
- Canoeing
- Bush Craft
- Photography
- Residential
- Caving
- Abseiling
- Plumbing
- Circus skills
- Cooking
- Fruit kebabs
- Bouldering
- Lego Building
- Zip line
The team are continually adding new activities so the children don’t get bored and can try something they have never tried before. IOU Theatre hosted the first residential trip at Hebden Bridge Hostel and the feedback was brilliant, the children had a ball of a time. The other activity to note is plumbing; it’s an opportunity to learn some basic plumbing skills, and it’s something different which the kids love. We will keep you updated and give you a roundup of the Summer holiday activities on our blog.
