When Community Spirit Filled Our Office with Colour and Flavour

Last week, our office was bursting with colour, kindness, and the warm aroma of home-cooked food. Shantha from Annapurna Indian Dance, a brilliant local organisation we’ve been privileged to support in the past, came by with gifts and food—entirely unprompted, purely thoughtful.

It was one of those moments that reminds you of the power of community. Shantha’s generosity didn’t just brighten our day—it brightened our whole office. Among the beautiful gifts was a stunning, hand-sewn piece that will soon hang proudly on our office wall, a burst of colour and creativity that will remind us daily of the connections we share in Calderdale.

Our grateful team were overjoyed at the sight and smell of the home-cooked chickpea curry, samosas and roti. Every bite was a little taste of human kindness and love—an act so simple yet so deeply meaningful. Sharing food made by hand, with care, is a gesture that resonates in a way few others do.

As well as gifts of food, dance, and stories, Rachel received a saree, Steve and Rob received a shawl each, the girls got hair bobbles, and Dean was gifted brass Diyas, all from India.

We’re incredibly lucky to have such wonderful relationships with organisations like Annapurna Indian Dance. Visits like these remind us why we do what we do—they help us stay rooted in the needs and stories of Calderdale. Our door is always open to local organisations, whether it’s just a chat and coffee, to celebrate, or even share a meal.

Shantha, and your helpers, thank you for your thoughtfulness and for making our office feel just a little bit more like home. Albeit with a delicious taste of India.
