Christine Gow joins CFFC, and shows how local people can help local causes
Christine Gow has recently become a member of the Community Foundation for Calderdale (CFFC), and has also generously offered to volunteer her time with us.
Christine is the daughter of our founder, Lord David Shutt. David was a much-loved figure in Calderdale and a tireless supporter of local communities. More than five years after his death, it feels very special to have Christine continuing that family connection with CFFC.
Time is one of the most generous things anyone can give, and we are very grateful that Christine wants to spend some of hers helping CFFC and the people we support across Calderdale.
Christine has already made a brilliant contribution to the Foundation in recent years. During the pandemic, she raised funds for the Laptops for Learning appeal by making cream teas for friends and family. The appeal, a partnership between CFFC, Calderdale Council and local education partners, raised almost £2,500 to help provide laptops and internet access for children and young people learning from home during lockdown.
In 2022 she rolled up her sleeves again, this time baking cream teas to raise money for Mothershare, a Calderdale charity supporting vulnerable children and families with essentials such as cots, blankets, clothes, bottles, nappies and other items that many families cannot simply go without. Christine made 250 cream teas for family, friends and members of the public, raising more than £1,750. CFFC match-funded the amount, taking the total to £3,500 for Mothershare.
Christine said at the time that she wanted to raise as much as possible for a charity that was in demand and helping families when they needed support most. A vision and passion we share at CFFC.
By becoming a CFFC member, Christine is now also helping to fund grants for not-for-profit organisations in Calderdale. 100% of membership fees go out as grants to local organisations, supporting CFFC’s priorities including housing and homelessness, poverty and disadvantage, community cohesion, health and wellbeing, and climate change.
We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Christine for becoming a member, for offering her time as a volunteer, and for everything she has already done to support CFFC. Her support means a great deal to us, and we are looking forward to working with her.
