Social Value Leaders Come Together in Calderdale
Yesterday we were excited to welcome social value managers from across the north to Halifax for an inspiring workshop on how to create meaningful social impact by using local insight.
We kicked off with Christian Sait, Founder of the Yorkshire Social Value Network, who shared an insightful overview of the new PPN002 guidance and what it means for future public sector bids. Paul Valentine from Sonar then brought Community Wants & Needs to life, showing how vital it is to fully understand what communities actually need. Nigel Cliffe, Chair of the CFFC Board, spoke about how community foundations provide governance and due diligence to grantmaking whilst ensuring grants reach the right local charities. He highlighted the ABS Fund as a powerful example of how businesses can create long term, meaningful impact. Connor Moore from Quickline shared how working with CFFC took the legwork out of researching local charities and helped maximise impact in the communities they serve and brought to life some of the stories of the individuals who benefitted. Finally, CFFC’s Rachel Oates introduced the Local Insights Report Summary showing how community foundations understand local needs and are perfectly placed to help businesses invest in the right projects. She also shared the UK community foundation map so organisations everywhere can find their local partner and introduced how community foundations can broker match funding.
Key Takeaways:
- There is a need to getting involved early in procurement to shape better outcomes
- Aligning social value with real community needs is going to become more important
- There is an appetite for building long-term programmes that leave a legacy and can be handed over
- We need to share knowledge, contacts and resources across organisations
- Social value should be embedded into the company culture, not just be done because it is in a contract
The enthusiasm in the room was incredible and it’s clear there is appetite to build a collaborative social value movement.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and to our brilliant sponsors Lovell, NG Bailey, and Sonar for making the event possible.
And thank you to our live scribe, Catherine Davis, for capturing the key concepts and messages from each presentation. Click the boards below to see Catherine’s art in detail.
