Let's Make Halifax Healthy
29/06/10
Community Foundation for Calderdale and Voluntary Action Calderdale are inviting community and voluntary groups in north and central Halifax to share ideas about "Healthy Halifax: 4health4fun4life" a revolutionary strategy to get funding for clubs and projects that get the community moving more and eating healthier. The drop-in will be held on Tuesday 29 June 4:00-6:00pm at Voluntary Action Calderdale, Resource Centre, Halifax.
Community Foundation For Calderdale (CFFC) wants to hear from community and voluntary groups working in Illingworth, Mixenden, Ovenden, Park and Town wards to share and discuss ideas of how their groups and activities already promote or plan to engage in healthy living activities that meat Healthy Halifax outcomes.
Run by CFFC the "Healthy Halifax: 4health4fun4life" project supports voluntary and community groups with good ideas for projects that promote physical activity and healthy eating in their community.
Megan Vickery, CFFC Grants Manager said, "The difference community groups can make to people to live happy, healthy lives is essential. We want to hear from community groups and make awards to those who can really make a difference."
Recent successful applicant Home Start Calderdale was awarded over £8,000 to provide training for volunteers on nutrition and health to enable information to be passed on to parents to support their families to include the recommended 5 a day into their diet. The grant will also enable Home Start to improve kitchen facilities and hold regular cooking sessions with parents to learn new ways to cook healthy foods on a budget. A large part of the grant will be used to educate and encourage both children and families on food and nutritional values, healthy lifestyles and the benefits of physical activity to improve both physical and mental wellbeing.
If your group has ideas to make a difference or would like to get involved in Healthy Halifax the CFFC grants team will be on hand to help and advise about the application process at the drop-in session on Tuesday 29 June 4:00-6:00pm at Voluntary action Calderdale, Resource Centre, Hall Street, Halifax.
