About Us

The Community Foundation for Calderdale is an independent charity that aims to improve the quality of life for people in Calderdale.

We connect people who care with causes that matter.

We address local need by raising money through our network of supporting Members and Donors, and have a long-term investement fund. The interest gained on the invested money is given out in grants; we have awarded £1.75 million to local good causes in the last three years.

As a member of the Foundation you can make a real difference on your doorstep!

Local people have the opportunity to give to local causes, see where their money has gone - and be able to contribute to a permanent pot of cash to benefit our community forever.

The Foundation can make a difference to your life!

Grants are given to support causes as varied as social clubs for the elderly, community recycling schemes, children's after-school clubs, community bands, sports clubs, refugee centres - and individuals in crisis.  Our long-term investment fund currently stands at over £6 million.

We are part of the national Community Foundation Network and international network of Community Foundations which exist to improve their local area, be it Hamburg or Honolulu, Toronto or Tuzla, Melbourne or Merseyside.

This philanthropic movement of Community Foundations originated in the USA in 1914 with the creation of a Community Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. Within five years Community Foundations were established in Chicago, Boston, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Rhode Island and Buffalo.

There are now over 1000 Community Foundations worldwide giving people, wherever they are, the chance to make a real lasting difference at a local level.
